This will let you know how much of a loan you can qualify for and give you an advantage when you start shopping for houses. Contact a local lender who will let you know different mortgage programs for home buyers. For example first time home buyers, down payment assistance, buy downs, etc.

Research the area you are interested in.

Look into the local schools, crime rates, and types of amenities available in the area such as parks, coffee shops, dog parks, and entertainment.

Make sure you have enough saved up for a down payment, closing costs, and any other costs associated with the purchase.

Hire a reputable Real Estate Broker to help you through the process.
